Mind as the Moon: the Art of Nancy Koh
16 January to 22 February 2009

On display are some eighty pieces of her recent work, including paintings in both Chinese and Western media as well as Chinese calligraphy.

Nancy Koh was born in Singapore, brought up in Penang, Malaysia, educated in Australia, and moved to Hong Kong following her marriage. She began to learn Chinese calligraphy at the age of five. In the 1970s, she studied Chinese ink painting following Master Ding Yanyong (1902 - 1978). Since then, she has continued to cultivate her pursuits in Chinese calligraphy and oil painting.

Koh is a Buddhist practitioner and has been conferred the dharma name Akasha Garbha (quintessence of the sky). Her calligraphy and painting are sometimes inspired by Buddhist literature or ideas. She also writes poetry and has participated in a musical production. She believes that one should "comply with benevolence; dabble in the arts". Her art has a harmonious and peaceful aura.
